BGC Coming… Very Soon

Wow, I still figured it’d be a while before I made this post; but here it is.

BlueIrn Gaming Community is coming very soon!

Admittedly we’re not coming out with big features but the full fury of our small development team is subtly planning future additions. But the key point is that we’re close to an opening.

What is left to complete?

Forum Theme

We’re getting close!!! Would you like a sneak peak? I could give you one but I’m not going to because nobody outside of the dev team have seen it so I’m gonna keep it under wraps until it’s done.

Quite a few months of Dell

So I’ve had it for a while now I guess it’s time I wrote something about it. In keeping with the reviews tradition as exampled by Chris earlier this year, I’ll make a short note about it, then carry on with a full blown review.

For those who aren’t going to bother reading this whole thing, read the following, then move on; otherwise, keep reading!

The 2408WFP is a damn good monitor, I’m glad my original thoughts of going with a BenQ G2400W fell through to end up paying the extra for this; it was well worth it. More inputs than I know what to do with (literally), and the 1920×1200 resolution makes web-design rather easy. Highly recommended monitor if you ask me.

However, for those other, more in-depth, bits of information…

Pipeline Update 4

So the pipeline took a bit of a beating during last month given all of my Uni assignments were due in that month and all fell within about a fortnight of eachother; but it’s all resolved now, and that means that for the next few months, Uni Assignments are no longer on my pipeline… Yay!

  • Plans for the new BlueIrn site along with all other aspects of the development work - 40%; Forum theme has actually been coming along very smoothly, I had a bit of a problem… wait, why am I telling you this now? Wait until later.
  • New plans to expand “Irn” Family - 20%, (still waiting for more on that in a later post aren’t we?).
  • Unannounced project - 0%, want to guess why?
  • University Assignments
  • Artwork for my old schools art exhibition - 70%/30%; so given the artwork I was working on was taking way to long to complete (try and work out which one that is) I decided to ere on the side of caution and start another one that wouldn’t take me as long to complete. Now that I’ve started it, it’s going smooth, and should be finished by the due date (10th of November). I’ll let you know how it goes, and I’ll even show you the end result.

So for a while, progress was slow, but now, the path is “somewhat” more clear than it was; and work shall continue.

Keep watching for all your BlueIrn related posts in the future, or the past, maybe now?

Bored

I’m bored as all hell and I don’t know why.

I’ve got so much running through my head right now I wouldn’t even know where to begin, so I’m not even going to bother trying; but I am going to say that I am seriously bloody bored.

I have Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash open but can’t think of anything to do.

Oh well, I guess I’ll find something.

On the BGC front

I figured I’d best keep these posts seperate.

Hey guys,

So I know you’ve been staring at the same boring returning soon page for BGC for a while now, and are probably wondering what the hell’s going on with it right?

Well other than Uni work I have been doing bit’s and pieces of it in any spare time I’ve had and so far I’ve made some good progress. Not including my backwards step of forgetting to have a backup system a while back and loosing a considerable amount of work after I decided to reorganise my folder system on my computer and clean up the server. The files are probably there somewhere, just lost in translation during the reorganisation.

However since that stage I’d managed to recover that ground and continue on my way towards the completetion of the basic stuff (user intergration with the site, area that only certain members can access etc.). With the user system for the overall BGC to be converted to work with the IrnMedia “IrnIdentity” (Details on that in a later blog post) you could say what I’m doing right now is rather useless; however at this stage I’ve got no bloody idea when we’re even going to get a chance to build the “IrnIdentity” system to start with.

So I suppose I should bring this post to a close with a single (hopefully) line message:

BGC has not been neglected; there are currently more pressing and important tasks at hand that need to be dealt with first.

That’s all for now,

Urgh Part 1

What a month it’s been. I shouldn’t spill the beans on what exactly it entailed but I’ll go into moderate details anyway.

Let me quickly say before the break, that it was a month of assignments, blandness and utter chaos; only bad was to come of this…

Imaging Assignment coming on

So remember how I said I’ve got all these assignments? Well I’ve been concentrating on one so much that even while I was out playing golf today it was sticking in the back of my head.

My “25 second long” animation has become (so far) just over 45 seconds, and it’ll get just a little bit longer as there’s still another scene I need to do; but it’s looking good. I’ve got until Friday to get that done.

I’d best get back to it; just thought I’d let you know how I was going.

Assignments and Stuff…

So I’ve mentioned in the last few pipelines that I have Uni Assignments that are ongoing. Well I’m going to reveal what each of these projects are while I give my computer a chance to recover from burning itself out rendering After Effects videos for my Imaging assignment.

So, I’ll start with that one.

Imaging: I have to make a minumum 25 second long animation using after effects related around a character we created earlier in the semester. I have until Friday to finish it; so far I’m about 20% done (I believe).

Games Studio: This is a group effort, in Games Studio we work in teams to develop a mod; last semester it was Neverwinter Nights, this semester we got to do Unreal Tournament 2004. At first I was looking forward to it, but it’s wound out to be 4 or 5 months of hell. UnrealEd has been a constant bitch doing things I don’t want it do, dying, or in the Uni’s case, not even working to start with. So our group has managed alright, but I think it’s pretty fair to say we won’t be top of the class (I’ve played some of the other stuff already and it’s awesome).

Media Cultures: The theory class. Need I say more?

Design For Interactive Media: Probably my favourite class this semester, we get to use flash and make a short flash game with an objective and some actionscript. Mine’s called “Wild Goose Hunt” and all it is, is geese flying across the game screen that you have to shoot; pretty basic but it’s coming along pretty good.

So there you have it. That’s my assignment lineup for the rest of the year.

In other news I think I heard somewhere that the Xbox Dashboard Update, or the “New Xbox Experience” is due out on November 19th, so I’ll be interested in seeing what that looks like. I’m not going to comment on my opinions towards it until I use it. I like the blades, but I’m open to change.

That’s all for now, I’d best get back to this assignment.

Pipeline Update 3

The List:

  • Plans for the new BlueIrn site along with all other aspects of the development work - 20%, haven’t touched it since my last update (maybe that’s what I was going to write about…)
  • New plans to expand “Irn” Family - 20%, (like I said, more on that in a later post).
  • Unannounced project - 0%, still no decision on whether I’m doing it or not.
  • University Assignments - Ongoing
  • Artwork for my old schools art exhibition - 20%, started the artwork, it’s going to take me a while to finish it though, I’m going to be taking up as much of this time to do it as I can (aka, they’re not getting it early).
